Meet Sirine Shebaya
Sirine Shebaya is a Civil Rights and Immigration Attorney in Washington DC and chairs the Board of the Dulles Justice Coalition formed in response to the recent travel bans targeting individuals from Muslim-majority countries. She was previously Program Director for the Virginia Justice Program at the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition, and before that directed the ACLU of Maryland’s Immigrants’ Rights Program, where she developed litigation, legislation, and other advocacy strategies to uphold and protect the rights of immigrants in Maryland. She played a lead role in enacting a wave of state and county policies in Maryland prohibiting the detention of immigrants for ICE without a warrant or probable cause of a new crime. She has conducted KYR sessions and trainings on various topics related to immigration enforcement and detention, and has published reports and articles on related topics. She holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, a Ph.D. from Columbia University, and a B.A. from the American University of Beirut.
